A UK fishing boat was caught on film dumping tons of unwanted fish into the sea. A Norwegian coastguard vessel took the video footage of the Shetland boat discarding about 80% of its catch. The film of the discard at a time of diminishing fish stocks and food shortages has caused outrage in Norway. © Norwegian Coast Guard
I respect the fishermen but EU restrictions are there for some reason! I love seafood and live in one of the biggest fish consumers country in the world (Portugal – per capita). For that reason, I understand the fishermen frustration (I live 10 km away from the sea and I have fishermen friends), but the point is, if they continue disrespecting EU rules, there will be NO BLOODY FISH! GOT IT! UNDERSTAND???? NO FISH; NO FISHERMEN!!!!!
Its extremely frustrating reading some of the stupid comments on this video from people who dont have a clue what there talking about.
Fishermen have to dump fish because the EU dont allow them to land what they catch. If they do land them they face MASSIVE fines. Recently the Arcaine was fined over £400,000 for landing a few kilo’s of fish he had no quota for.
These guys are some of the hardest working men on the planet. Give them a break please!

They get massive fines if they try to sell fish outside of their quota, Blame the fucking EU regulations, They are causing this.
You ain’t seen half of the discards that these fishermen are forced to dump because of EU Laws, the ministers in Brussels on enforce these laws because they sit behind a desk, they need to wake up to reality and see what these men do to place fish on to the table, many of these men get hurt or even killed catching the fish, it time these men where given a break and for the EU to change the rules and look after the fishermen
The EU interferance with fishing does not only cause this kind of waste that you see here but very often their stupidity endangers the very lives of these fishermen. The rules forces them to go to sea in dangerous weather.

They’re only dumped due to EU quota restrictions. This is NOT sloely the AMOUNT of fish you can catch BUT also the SPECIES of fish . As fish can’t read it’s impossible to put a notice on the net telling them which species are allowed to be caught for that day / month / season . BLAME the goverments . NOT the fisherman .
On the west coast of Canada this discarding of less valuable catches has been done for a long time. Some retired commercial fishers have told me about this and about some of the other cheating done by commercial fisherman.

my god 2 minutes and 50 seconds of dumping fish. why cant they keep them anyway. by dumping that many fish they wasted time and money. (deploying the net, taking the net back out). it’s insane, they can still sell the fish. and benham55, if you report a video, its because of offensive content, not dumb fishermen throwing of like half a ton of fish.

yeah the fish are unwanted,for fuck sake give me a bucket,do you think they would b dumping good fish????its all down to quotas,they dont that quota left,ireland is at it this 3 years,and its cod were dumping not small fish like they are,the EU would want 2 get there finger out of there ass and have a look at the way quotas and spread out,it fucking makes me sick see us or any other boats dumping fish,it has 2 stop!!!!

When beaurocrats are not busy pilfering and embezleing, they have a little doodle, and come up with another draconian law or two.
In this case the British fisherman cannot just come back to port with whatever the nets catch, which is pretty awkward given that is the way trawlers fish.
No, come into port with a catch for which you have no allowance, and you will be fined. Fishermen don’t dump a catch gladly, they have no option.
The only people that are in any position to know what sort of fish numbers there are in the seas are the fishermen themselves not pencil pushers that have no aspect of what fishermen go through to earn their money. Worst thing of all though with the quota system is that the uk has only a small proportion and its decreasing every year along with our fleet. Most of the fish we eat in the UK is imported too. A larger perxentage of the Cod in this country is imported because of quotas and bans.
